While Mom and Dad were in Germany, Vance, Alison, Porter, Me, and 5 others from the Duerden clan set out of a mission to find five Christmas trees and bring them home from Price. It wasn't easy- but about 140 miles and Seven hours later, Mom and Dad have a real live tree. AND it only cost five dollars mind you. I thought I would share some pictures.

After 30 long years, I am starting my dream of getting a degree! I am officially a cougar, rise and shout! I have declared American Studies as my major with editing as my minor. Today was the first day of classes! I am taking a Doctrine and Covenants class with Vance. I had a bit of a meltdown after (not sure I can do this!) But, never fear I have gird up my loins, fresh courage take and off I go! Next class, Effective Learning and Study on Thursday, all by myself.

So, when Porter entered the Cutest Baby contest for the Freedom Festival he lost miserably. Not that he isn't cute - but because he can't perform for just anyone. Well, the other day I got an e-mail saying some pictures I had taken there were ready for me to review. I went on the photographer's website and discovered that out of all the kid's pic Porter was chose by the photographer to represent HIS (and our) idea of the cutest baby. Here's the link. Well, it happened... Taft is now a married man and we have a new member of the fam. That almost rhymes! Anyway, Welcome Carrie! We're glad you are a Johnson! Here's some pics I took at the wedding. So just recently I found out somethings that I really need to brag about. Well As some of you know carrie is in school at the moment. Well she had her mid-term the day after I left. She was really worried about it cause I had just left for germany and she was stressed. Well she got her results just this last week. It turns out she is a freakin genus cause even with everything going on in her life at the time she got a 99% on her test! She is just so freakin amazing! If you see her tell her congrats. Also if that isn't awesome enough she had her final paper due as well and she scored a 100% on that! In fact she did so good the dude that was teaching her class is now going to us her paper in his future lessions! How awesome is that? I am such a lucky guy to be marring her! Well that's my-ness for now.

So check this out. I'm in this class called FTAC. Now it is a class that all new airman take. This class is one of the most retarted classes ever. We seriously sit in a room for eight hours and just watch power points. Who ever came up with the power point thing should be carried in to the street and shot! But that is no tmy place to do. If the class isn't bad enough we have people in this class that insist on asking the stupidest questions. I mean the person breifing will say some thing like "You will all need to go to the post office and get a mail box." Then someone will seriously ask "How are we suposed to get mail while we are here?" I mean come on, no is that retarted right? Well I found some people that are! It's kinda freaking nuts. But hey what can you do. Also to top it all off I get random drunk people that freak out in the hallways and bang on my door in the middle of the night. Yeah I'm having a great time over here. But hey it's pretty freakin funny. People are so stupid when when they are drunk.

Saving Betty

Last night about 8:30 I got a call from Betty saying that the Saturn was overheating. I, being the dashing Knight in Shining Armour drove like the wind - within the speed limit - to Mapleton to rescue her and Becky. When I got there both of them were greatly relieved to have someone there to help and assist them in their hour of need and they almost swooned( actually they were watching the sun set and talking but this sounds better).

What should I find with the car, but it was leaking water like a garden hose. With my quick wit and excellent mechanical skills, I was able to refill the water reservoir in the car and I drove it home, stopping about 5 times in order to refill it with water. Today my good friend Ray is looking at it and hopfully will tell me what it is that needs to be done to fix it. I hope it is not expensive.

I would also like to tell you kids what a great mom that you have. Some people would have gotten upset at having the car break down with her friend and having to wait to continue on. She was kind and patient as ever. I am so fortunate to have her as my companion.

In conclusion we were all safe and not animals were injured in the occurance of this event.

By the way did I ever tell you about the time.....

Okay, okay I might add that the first instance was PURELY innocent! I really didn't get it and I was totally taken advantage of. Secondly, I was quoting Vance regarding saying the "eeF" word ~ which I might add he says often (not the word, but the phrase, never EVER saying the word) and a word to the wise-guys:

Moment Number One: Mom, Dad, Alison and I were all sitting down enjoying a nice family discussion when all you know what broke loose! We conversing over what things one shouldn't name a child and I mentioned if my last name were Jass I would never want to name my child Hugh. Alison and Dad gave me looks to prevent me from going further but Mom just said, I don't get it, "Hugh Jass?" "HUGH Jass?" "Hugh JASS?" "hughjass?" And she continued to repeat this a number of times. By this time Dad, Alison and I were rolling on the ground laughing. We all had tears in our eyes when Dad finally clued Mom in by saying, "Big Bottom" She then said the name again and gasped. Classic

Funny Moment Two:
While playing ticket to ride Mom said that she was so maid she could say the EFF-Word.

May 7, 2008: The plan was for Taft to surprise Mom at her office BUT she didn't cooperate. So Dad, Porter, Taft and I went to look for her and found her at the BYU Bookstore. I called her to find out where exactly she was and she saw Dad first and said, "Well, I see Dad. Wonder what he is doing here..." Then she saw Taft and the conversation was over. He surprised her in his dress blues and had her favorite - yellow roses! What a nice boy!!

Camp

Hey I just thought that I would write and let everyone know how I am doing. I love it here it is really fun. I am getting to do a lot of things that I don't think I would other wise get to do. Today I tried English horse riding. I rode a horse named Sassy. I also made a sweet-awesome pot out of clay on the throw wheel. We finished off the evening with a dance off where I showed my wicked moves. I am learning that I am really innocent and sheltered. I think I am the only one that has not had alcohol. Since you can drink in England at 18 most of the girls have crazy stories about being drunk. (Not the the age stops the Americans from drinking). I hear swear words like every other sentence but in spite of that-IT'S GREAT! I really like it. I hope everything is going well at home- and in Germany. I love you all. Give Porter lots of kisses and hugs for me. I really miss him. Hope all is well!

Mom and I are not in Hot Water

5/27/08 Well, is it a good thing to know that you are not in Hot Water? I decided that the leaky pipes by the hot water heaters needed to be fixed. the pans that were catching the leaks were over flowing and corroded. I decided to replace the piping in there not just because of the leaks, but also because of the new style hot water tanks are taller then the old ones and I had hard piped the old ones in. With the new set up it will be easy to replace the heaters when they go out. I also put in drain pans to catch any drips if they occure.

I knew that it would be a big job but after 10 hrs we didn't have leaks and we didn't have hot water. We did have cold water and that was good enough for me. Besides, I was tired and decided to finish today. This morning, Betty decided to take a cold shower and I opted for a shower at BYU. Betty as always was a good sport and took it very well (the cold shower and not having hot water), I sure appreciate her not complaining. Only half of the new pipes have been tested for leaks so we shall see what type of plumber that I am when we get hot water. Another thing that was nice, not one of our children commented on not having hot water - wait there was no one home to comment. Boy that is weird, but we are getting used to it.
